VERY RARE THE CHURCHES OF DELAWARE A HISTORY BY FRANK ZEBLEY HB 1. Up for sale is a rare first edition hardcover book entitled "The Churches of Delaware; a History, in brief, of the nearly 900 churches and former churches in Delaware as located by the author" by Frank R. Published in 1947 by Unknown and unknown place. Out of print and scarce. Zebley spent twelve years travelling through Delaware to discover the histories of nearly 900 churches located in Delaware. The previous owner of this book was William Draper, Jr. Army soon after finishing college and served during World War I as a major in the infantry. After the war, he stayed in the Organized Reserve and worked his way up to chief of staff of the 77th Division from 1936 to 1940. After a promotion to major-general, Draper was asked by the new Secretary of War Kenneth C. Royall to become his Under Secretary of War.

With the transition of the Department of War to the Department of the Army, Draper became the first under secretary of the Army from September 18, 1947, to February 28, 1949. Green binding with gilt lettering on the cover and spine. Measures 9 1/4 by 6 1/4 inches. No loose or torn pages.

Previous owner's name in ink on the first flyleaf. Gift inscription in ink on the second flyleaf. No handwriting on the pages.

Shelf wear to the cover with rubbing along the edges and top and bottom of the spine and the cover. Bump to the top corner on the front. Some discoloration to the lower front cover. Please view the photos for more on condition.
