THIS BOOK WAS PRESENTED TO SECOND WW2 HERO, E. AIKMAN, FOR HIS SENIOR CLASS WORK'IN SPANISH BY H. WHILE BEING TOWED BACK TO BIRKENHEAD FOR REPAIR, ETC, IN 1953 SHE RAN AGROUND AND WAS WRECKED, AND LATER BURNED.
THE SCHOOL WAS THEN MOVED TO SPECIALLY BUILT PREMISES ON ANGLESEY WHERE IT CONTINUED FOR A FURTHER TWENTY YEARS. ON 19TH FEBRUARY 1945 LIEUTENANT COMMANDER AIKMAN WAS DECORATED WITH THE ROYAL DECORATION MEDAL (RD). THIS MEDAL WAS AWARDED TO OFFICERS OF THE ROYAL NAVAL RESERVE AND WAS COMMONLY KNOWN AS THE RESERVE DECORATION. IT WAS AWARDED TO AIKMAN FOR HIS FIFTEEN YEARS OF SERVICE. THE BOOK IS NICELY BOUND IN RED CLOTH AND HAS A WONDERFUL GILDED H.CONWAY MOTIF ALONG WITH IT'S "QUIT YE LIKE MEN, BE STRONG" QUOTATION MOTTO ON THE FRONT COVER BOARD. ON THE INSIDE COVER THERE IS THE H. BEAUTIFULLY ILLUSTRATED THROUGHOUT WITH BLACK AND WHITE PHOTOGRAPHS, PULL-OUT PLANS AND OTHER ILLUSTRATIONS MOSTLY BY CAPTAIN RICHARD WOODGET OF THE CUTTY SARK.
BOOK ALSO CONTAINS SEVERAL SEPARATE OLD NEWSPAPER CUTTINGS ON THE CUTTY SARK, ETC, WHICH WERE INSIDE THE BOOK. POSSIBLY AIKMAN'S VERY OWN NEWSPAPER CUTTINGS. IN VERY GOOD CONDITION WITH ONLY SLIGHT SHELF-WEAR TO THE SPINE AND A LITTLE STAINING HERE AND THERE ESPECIALLY TO THE BACK OUTER COVER BOARD.FIRST PHOTO YOU SEE OF THE MAIN COVER WHICH IS IN VERY GOOD CONDITION IS A SCREENSHOT FROM AN OLD PHOTO OF THE BOOK BUT I SHALL TAKE A NEW PHOTO OF IT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. ALL PAGES ARE MOSTLY CLEAR, CLEAN, BRIGHT AND CRISP WITH NONE MISSING OR LOOSE.
