You're looking at an excellent overall condition book which is EXTREMELY RARE and hard to find and the first novel by feminist pioneer LORINE PRUETTE--the book is a collectible STATED FIRST EDITION published by Doubleday, Doran and Company, Inc. In 1936 and a HARDCOVER with no dustjacket. This book is in excellent overall condition and the book has light sunning on the spine end, light dings on the spine tips and very light dings on the opening tips, a few light scuffs and very small, slight discolored spots on the covers, a small checkout pouch on the back board with browning in the adjacent spot on the back surface of the blank last page and two tiny stamps for "The Forthnightly Club" of Hornell, N. On the back board (the book is NOT a former library but was part of the book club collection of "The Forthnightly Club", an historic Womens' Club), the original front inner flap notes from the original dustjacket attached to the front board with some light browning of the front board and a tiny stamp for "The Forthnightly Club" on the lower right corner, a VERY slight exposure of the binding cheesecloth between the front board and first page with NO loose pages, a slight discolored spot on the upper right corner of p. 57 and on the center of the blank surface of the last text page and second to last blank last page of the book and just light shelfwear and very light evidence of gentle browsing but NO other significant imperfections!

And it was written by LORINE PRUETTE; it was published by Doubleday, Doran and Company, Inc. In 1936 and is a STATED 1st EDITION copy. In Paris Betty met Roderick Fall, a newspaperman, and the lovely, monosyllabic Dennison Cope, who shared an apartment with Bill Pharamond, a hard-shelled romantic and Betty's expatriate cousin. It was Bill who told Betty, The best road to matrimony is by way of a little infidelity.

Betty, though inexperienced, has an open mind, and after having met Roderick began to think there might be something in Bill's words. Paris in spring worked its miracle on her, and she was willing to meet seduction halfway, but learned to her surprise that an affaire du coeur doesn't always progress according to schedule. A fantastic find, and a beautiful copy of this book!
