The author took an Alpine tour with a difference with her husband taking in the largest Swiss & French Alpine passes which is no mean feat given the obvious weight of their machines and the poor roads which wouldn't have been tarmac but rough compacted gravel. If you've been over these passes in a car you'll appreciate how difficult a trip this would have been. In a dedication to the Alpine Club at the beginning she affectionally dedicates the book to them stating there is a different way of climbing...... Overall she ascended inter alia ten major Alpine passes including the Grimsel, Furka, Simplon, Gotthard & St Bernard et al. The book is illustrated by her husbands sketches throughout.
The author was a well known author and aesthete based in London but an American by birth and published over twenty books in her lifetime. A very good read and an incredibly scarce early cycling title. This is the true first edition of the book and not the modern print on demand version. Please feel free to ask any questions over the book or indeed any of my other books listed for sale.
