His work often explored themes of mortality, consciousness, duality, memory, and the relationship between life and death. French primarily worked in charcoal, acrylic, ink, spray paint, and oil, and his paintings have been exhibited internationally in London, New York, Miami, and other major art markets. He also created the artwork for a special release of the Donnie Darko soundtrack. Tragically, Tom French was diagnosed with cancer and passed away on December 25, 2019, at just 37 years old after what friends and galleries described as a courageous battle with the disease. Despite his illness, he continued painting until the very end.
His final body of work was exhibited posthumously in the retrospective "Transcend" at Unit London in early 2020, serving as both a celebration of his artistic legacy and a memorial to his life.
