Up for sale is a Very Rare, SIGNED First Edition/First Printing of Mila 18 by Leon Uris. SIGNED, TRUE First Editions of this title are scarce and becoming exceedingly hard to find!
Hardcover with its original, First State dust jacket, NOT price-clipped! Published by Doubleday: Garden City, New York, 1961. Boldly SIGNED on the first, blank page by the celebrated Author! NOT inscribed to anyone, simply SIGNED by the great Leon Uris!
Please note there is more writing present on the same page! There is a previous owner gift inscription, written in pen, and located near the top edge of the page. There is also another signature present! The other name is located beneath the Leon Uris signature. Despite our best efforts, we have been unable to ascertain, with an acceptable degree of certainty, the identity of the other individual who also signed the book.
The other signature appears to have been made using the same or similar pen/marker. Initially, we believed the additional signature had some importance and we had our thoughts as to who it belonged to. Unfortunately, because we cannot say for certain, we must apply an abundance of caution and assume it is simply the signature of a previous owner. We must proceed under the belief that the other signature has no significance and adds no monetary value to the book. If anything, the other signature, (along with the previous owner gift inscription), should be viewed as a flaw!
Once again, we want to repeat that the both the previous owner gift inscription and the other signature should be considered an unfortunate flaw. One last time, there is more writing on the page in which the Leon Uris signature is located. We MUST assume the other writing has NO significance and adds no monetary or cultural value to the book. If anything, it should be viewed as an unfortunate flaw. A TRUE First American Edition/First Printing/First State with ALL First Edition Points present! This rare treasure has some clearly visible wear, but is still in Highly Desirable, Highly Collectible condition! The book appears gently read and other than the writing on the first, blank page that was previously mentioned, has no internal writing, no internal foxing, no remainder marks, no missing pages and is NOT Ex-Libris or a BCE. The binding is holding tight and the pages are still surprisingly crisp and clean! Some general/shelf wear along with creases/marks/wear to the spine/corners/boards, marks/wear to the edge/fore pages, toning to the pages and creases/marks/wear to some of the pages, NOT affecting the text! Please note the wear to the spine/corners/boards, particularly noticeable near/along the edges, and the wear that is present on some of the pages, varying in size and severity.
While the binding is holding tight and all of the pages are present and fully attached, there is some visual space/separation along the top edge of the spine, (the area that connects the spine to the pages). All of the wear previously mentioned is clearly visible and should be carefully examined/considered. The original, First State dust jacket is fully intact and NOT price-clipped!
Some general/shelf wear along with creases, scuffing, marks and rips. Please note the wear on the spine, at the corners and near/along the edges! The wear, particularly near/along the edges, is clearly visible and should be carefully examined/considered. We tend to grade the condition of our books rather harshly and took into consideration any and all of the wear when determining the value of this VERY RARE book. We purposely and closely photographed what we consider to be the most obvious and egregious wear.
Once again, we want to reiterate that the wear to both the book and the dust jacket is clearly visible! Numerous photographs from various angles were taken for your consideration/inspection. Please closely and carefully view ALL the pictures for further clarification!
