An exceptionally rare first issue/first edition Oliver Twist, by Charles Dickens. Published by Bradbury and Evans, London, 1846. One volume, collated as fully complete.
All of Smith's text points here present. Bound in contemporaneous green calf over marbled boards, with titles in gilt to a morocco label to the spine. Externally the binding is in pleasing order; the calf is bright and the hinges firm. The title label somewhat worn.
Internally it is wonderfully clean, with only the occasional light spot. A neat contemporaneous ownership inscription.
Such was the immense popularity of the title, the publisher persuaded Dickens to update and revise the text, and it was released in monthly parts in 1846. This beautiful volume is bound from the parts.Rare, handsome and sought after; we could not more highly recommend it, for it will grace any collection.
